A memorial service for former General Manager and Vice President of the Ffestiniog Railway Society, Allan Garraway will take place at Tan y Bwlch station at 1130 on Sunday 3rd May.
The 1030 (from Porthmadog) non stop train (with Linda and Prince) is available to take members to Tan y Bwlch but all travellers must obtain a ticket from Porthmadog Booking Office in advance and certainly before attempting to board. See details here.
This is during the May Bank Holiday 150th Anniversary of Passenger Operations on the Ffestiniog Railway, details here. Allan Garraway was the Ffestiniog Railway’s first General Manager in the preservation and oversaw the restoration of passenger services in 1955, a mere 90 years after they first commenced!
Allan retired from the Ffestiniog in 1983. He was a keen a supporter of the project to restore Welsh Pony to working order, having always seen this as unfinished business. The restoration is being undertaken in memory of Allan.
