Slate Wagon Refurbishments 2011-2013

Major investment by the Society to enable the continuing use of the slate wagon fleet.

Major investment by the Society to enable the continuing use of the slate wagon fleet, whilst also providing parts for further wagons to be restored. This has included the purchase of new wheels and axles and couplings, along with the machining required. The work has enabled 60 slate wagons to be part of the operational fleet

Carriage 121 2012

£91,000 from the Society made the construction of Super Saloon Carriage 121 possible.

Carriage 121 was the second Super Saloon constructed. Entirely funded by the FRS including bogies, the carriage encompasses heating and double glazing and spacious seating. The carriage entered traffic in May 2012 after £91,000 from the Society

First Class Interiors 2008

A major initiative to enhance the first class interior of Ffestiniog Railway carriages. An appeal went out to Life members realising over £40,000 including Gift Aid.

A major initiative to improve the visitor experience by enhancing the first class interior of Ffestiniog Railway carriages. An appeal went out to Life members which realised over £40,000 including Gift Aid, which was used to refurbish and improve the interiors of existing First class carriages, with purpose made moquette, as well as ensuring new observation carriages 100 and 102 were fitted to the highest standards

David Lloyd George new power bogies 2014

Only possible due to £200,000 fundraised by members.

A major fundraising initiative over five years to provide 1992-built double fairlie David Lloyd George with new piston-valve power bogies, at a cost of £200,000. This is only possible due to the fundraising by members and general donations received

Minffordd New Points 2015

Over the winter of 2014-15, one of the major projects was the replacement of the bottom end pointwork and point motors, along with trackwork.

Over the winter of 2014-15, one of the major projects was the replacement of the bottom end pointwork and point motors, along with trackwork. This expensive project was aided by a grant of £57,000 from the Society

The Ffestiniog Railway Society exists to support the oldest independent railway in the world (being founded by an Act of Parliament in 1832) – now a historic and world-class tourist attraction.
